Beyond the Traverse’s obvious size, its enormous door apertures and low step-in height are two of its best-kept secrets that most of its competitors overlook. The interior is nearly car-like to access, which is particularly practical for kids or anyone with limited mobility.
The large windows and low-cut hoodline provide great views of the outside world once you’re behind the wheel. The only things that block viewing out the back are the rear headrests and any passengers utilizing them. However, the optional camera-based rearview mirror takes care of that by giving a real-time view behind the car.
In the five years since the release of this second-generation Traverse, in-car displays have advanced significantly, as seen by the small-looking touchscreen (the standard screen in the future edition is more than double the size). Positively, the software on this eight-inch device is excellent and provides a simplicity like to that of a smartphone, and it is positioned low on the dash to reduce distraction. The pictures are clear and bright, and the input response is quick. Other than that, the interior has several tactile controls for the music, temperature, and other features.

The first two levels have ventilated front seats and heated second-row seats, while the more expensive trims, like the RS model tested here, get extra nice features including a heated steering wheel and an enhanced radio with ten speakers.

The 2027 Traverse is the last model of this 3.6L V6 as it will move to turbocharged four-cylinder engine. With 310 horsepower and 266 lb-ft of torque, the output doesn’t exactly leap off the page, but it does get to the ground smoothly and dependably thanks to a nine-speed automatic transmission and a configurable all-wheel drive system.

Though it requires manual switching back for additional traction, the Traverse’s ability to deactivate the all-wheel drive system is a rather unique feature that enables it to operate in front-wheel drive to conserve gasoline. (The majority of contemporary systems just accomplish this on their own.) In any case, this Chevy will not be recognized for its efficiency in the city.
Its official rating is 13.6 L/100 km in the city; this figure was not met during the test. With a total fuel tally of 10.0 L/100 km over more than 630 miles, the suggested average for the first 60 km or so was around 15.0, but that number dropped sharply as more time was spent on the highway. Although the forward collision warning is rather sensitive and beeps and flashes when it detects a car parked on the street in the city, the other systems function as they should. Otherwise, the adaptive cruise quickly returns to a predetermined speed after slowing down and keeps a respectable distance from oncoming traffic.

The entry-level Traverse LS is a relative steal for $44,348 before tax (but includes a non-negotiable freight fee of $1,995), especially considering that costs are rising across the industry. Compared to the least expensive Telluride, which costs around $53,000 before taxes, that is almost $8,500 cheaper. In a similar vein, the most affordable Palisade costs $51,474 before taxes and freight. Despite having greater features, none is quite as affordable.
Before taxes, the next-in-line LT trim stays around $50,000, but the other four trims are well beyond that, with the top-of-the-line High Country reaching $65,000. After a few upgrades and options were added, the sticker price of the RS model that was tested here was $57,373.
Waiting for the new Traverse to arrive early next year is perfectly acceptable in the end, but keep in mind that new cars sometimes have growing pains. Early adopters may have some issues due to the completely new engine and the large infotainment system.
