New front and grille designs distinguish the Trailblazer versions this year, while the RS trim rides on 19-inch wheels, which is somewhat bigger than last year’s 18-inch rims. Paint in white and gray is already part of the pricing, but the addition of the most common colors—including the gorgeous Crimson Red—is $495.
The Trailblazer’s cabin has an attractive twin-screen display, new for 2027, with an 11-inch touchscreen in the center and an 8-inch digital instrument cluster as standard equipment. Stitching and the dash in an accent color are part of the top trim.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are part of the new 11-inch touchscreen, which follows the trend of many manufacturers by offering subscription services but does not come with built-in navigation. Standard equipment on all models includes one-zone temperature control, LED headlights, and six-speaker stereo (with an optional seven-speaker system on this tester).
Next, the motorized driver’s seat, center armrest for the back seat, and faux-leather upholstery are added to the activ and RS levels. A panoramic sunroof, hands-free motorized tailgate, automated temperature control, automatic-dimming mirror, wireless charger, 120-volt power outlet, cargo cover, and other optional features are also available.

Engine and Performance
Two turbocharged three-cylinder engines are available for the Trailblazer; the one you choose depends on the number of wheels you’re using. Engines available in front-wheel drive (FWD) LS and LT trim levels include a 1.2-liter inline-four (CVT) that produces 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The all-wheel-drive model comes with a standard nine-speed automated gearbox and a 1.3-liter engine that produces 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque.
Moving out from the line and through traffic, that small 1.3L seems lively enough in the metropolis. However, it requires some effort to reach highway speeds, and although it glides admirably once there, it becomes wheezy as you apply more pressure. According to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), the Trailblazer with AWD gets 9.0 L/100 km in city driving, 8.1 L/100 km on highway driving, and 8.6 L/100 km combined driving. The FWD version gets 7.8 L/100 km combined, and regular-grade gasoline is what it uses. I averaged 8.3 L/100 km while spending most of my time on long highway journeys. This three-cylinder engine outperforms some of its four-cylinder rivals, but it’s still not far off. For example, the combined fuel economy of the Subaru Crosstrek is 8.0 L/100 km, while that of the Toyota Corolla Cross is 7.8 (the hybrid version gets just 5.6 L/100 km).

The standard back-up camera, lane-keep assist, teen driver controls, automatic high-beam control, emergency front braking with pedestrian recognition, and buckle-to-drive are all part of the driver-support technology package in the base LS model. Adaptive cruise control was an additional option for my tester. I remember that system being a bit shaky when I initially drove the brand new 2021 Trailblazer in response to traffic, but it appears to have been fine-tuned as it now functions admirably.

Prices for the front-wheel-drive (FWD) Trailblazer start at $28,699 and for all-wheel-drive (AWD) models, it drops to $30,699 and at $34,999. It’s comparable to competing products that provide both: Starting at $27,345 for the Kia Seltos and $29,580 to $37,880 for the Toyota Corolla Cross, respectively. Prices range from $31,290 to $40,290 (not including delivery) for the Subaru Crosstrek with basic all-wheel drive. The Buick Encore GX, a sibling model to the Trailblazer, begins at $31,649 and is available with front-wheel drive (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) with the same 1.3L engine.
The 2027 Chevrolet Trailblazer is competitive in the subcompact crossover market, but it isn’t particularly outstanding. Make sure you give it a good spin around town and on the highway to get a feel for its practicality, comfort, and responsive handling—but then again, that’s true of most of its competitors.
